What is Mississippi Homebuyer Education Center-Mississippi Housing Initiative?
The Mississippi Housing Initiative (MHI) was established to provide statewide homeownership education and counseling services for first-time mortgage applicants through a network of affiliated agencies. The Homebuyer Education program is MHI’s mechanism for establishing high quality homeownership education and counseling services in accordance with the latest national standards. MHI is a HUD-Approved Housing Counseling Agency and currently provides housing counseling and credit counseling services in addition to its homebuyer education train-the-trainer workshops.

MHI’s standardized curriculum is a comprehensive wealth of knowledge that outlines a strategic way to becoming a homeowner. MHI’s curriculum teaches potential homebuyers to understand banking and financing terminologies, credit readiness, working with a real estate agent, mortgage affordability and much more.
Does MHI make loans?
No. MHI is not a financing agency. We are a non-profit organization that educate potential and existing homeowners about purchasing and/or maintaining their home.
How does MHI increase access to affordable housing?
MHI increases access to affordable housing by partnering with federal, state and local agencies whose mission is to increase affordable housing opportunities. We allow real estate agents, loan officers and mortgage brokers to attend our training since these persons are often the first point of contact for potential homeowners and can therefore provide resourceful information to those clients who may not be aware of all of the important factors to consider before purchasing a home.
Does MHI provide Section 8 Vouchers?
MHI does not provide Section 8 Vouchers, however we do work with housing authorities to help assist those persons enrolled in the program purchase their first home.
Is counseling confidential?
Absolutely! Our Certified Counselors do not discuss a client financial situation. Client records are maintained in secure facilities.
